Capacitance classification of power capacitors

Power capacitors can be categorized into 8 types according to their use:

① Shunt capacitor. Formerly known as phase-shifting capacitors. Mainly used to compensate for inductive load reactive power of the power system to improve power factor, improve voltage quality, reduce line losses.

② series capacitors. Series connection in the frequency of high-voltage transmission and distribution lines, used to compensate for the distribution of the line inductive impedance, improve the static and dynamic stability of the system, improve the quality of the line voltage, lengthening the transmission distance and increase the transmission capacity.

③Coupling capacitor. Mainly used for high-frequency communication, measurement, control, protection of high-voltage power lines, as well as in the extraction of electrical energy for parts of the device.

④ Breaker capacitor. Formerly known as equalization capacitor. Parallel connection in the ultra-high voltage circuit breaker breakers to play the role of voltage equalization, so that the voltage between the breakers in the process of breaking and disconnecting uniform, and can improve the circuit breaker arc extinguishing characteristics, improve the breaking capacity.

⑤ Electrothermal capacitor. Used in the frequency of 40 ~ 24000 Hz electric heating equipment system, in order to improve the power factor, improve the circuit voltage or frequency and other characteristics.

⑥pulse capacitor. Mainly play a role in energy storage, used as shock voltage generator, shock current generator, circuit breaker test oscillation circuit and other basic energy storage components.

⑦ DC and filter capacitors. Used in high-voltage DC devices and high-voltage rectifier filtering devices.

⑧ standard capacitors. Used in high-frequency measurement of dielectric loss circuit, as a standard capacitor or as a measurement of high-voltage capacitor voltage divider.
